Notes and Comments:

Boletus pinophilus Pilát & Dermek is a valid European name. This name has been applied to various porcini that grow with pine in other parts of the world. For example, the porcini that comes up in spring in the Sierra Nevada. As I understand it there was some research done by a student at SFSU that included a proposal to recognize the spring-time Sierran porcini as a distinct species with the name Boletus rexvernus.
