Rod Tulloss suggested that this is a different species than the European Amanita franchetii (Boud.) Fayod. I’ll add details of how they differ as soon as I have them.
While I’m not sure something with a “sensu” status should be labeled as “Accepted”, this is the most accurate name for the species in western North America, so I’m giving it that status. Also unsure if it’s even accurate to speak of an Amanita franchetii sensu Thiers, since he published his description as Amanita aspera.
Even though this is an unofficial name, the standard author abbreviation for Harry D. Thiers is simply “Thiers”, hence, changing this name to reflect that.
