Color translucent at first hen becoming reddish black to olive black to black smooth, Flesh gelatinous and thin.
Spores 9 to 11 microns X 4 to 6 microns Sausage shaped smooth

Through out North America Common in West Virginia, April May and November to January.

In Rows and singularly on dead deciduous wood common on Beech and Oak. Prefers cooler temps. Usually encounter while looking for morels.
