General Description:

In the west it is red-orange with white warts and in the east it is yellow-orange with white warts.


Diagnostic Description:

It is said the red and yellow forms can both be found in Mexico, the forms and their relationship are still not well understood, but with the help of more dna work we should some answers shortly.


Distribution:

Widely distributed from Alaska south to Mexico to eastern Canada. Rare to non-existent in the south-east United States.


Habitat:

Under pines trees, birch and a host of others.


Look Alikes:

In the south east they have Amanita muscaria var. persicina, with had a pinkish melon colored cap.

The PURE yellow fly agaric in the western united states represents the yellow form of the european A. muscaria, it is not a form of A. amerimuscaria.


Uses:

Spiritual, medicinally.


Notes:

Dr. Tulloss is currently working towards publishing this name once more dna work has been completed.
