General Description:

Russula aeruginea

Cap Cap dull to dark green with tints or blotches of brownish or yellow, margin may be striate,
Gills white becoming yellow,
Spore print creamy color,
Stalk stalk whitish,
Flesh white, staining salmon in Ferrous sulfate,
taste mild

Distribution:

Widely distributed. Original described from Europe. Reported from North America and Asia.


Habitat:

Under various trees oak, willow or poplar, etc.


Look Alikes:

R. heterophylla is often confused with this one but it does not stain salmon in ferrous sulfate, while R. aeruginea does.


Uses:

Said to be edible but may cause stomach upset in some.
