Distribution:

Core range is coastal California, from Monterey to Del Norte.
Uncommon to rare in OR, WA, and southernmost British Columbia.
Southern limits not well known, perhaps through San Luis Obispo Co. (CA)
Occasional in montane areas, known from the southern Cascades.


Habitat:

Forests. Most common under Coast Redwood, but also with madrone, oak, bay-laurel, tanoak, red-cedar, and other mixed evergreen settings.


Uses:

Edible, fairly good.


Notes:

Entoloma medianocte C.F. Schwarz is a junior synonym.
It was erroneously published in a misguided attempt to correct what some perceived to be an odd formulation of Latin grammar. Turns out that’s pretty trivial and I should have left well enough alone. My apologies for the mess!
