Combination of ecology and form:
Ecology: non-burn areas in western North America conifer forests.
cap: conical; color – yellowish or light brown when young, ridges become smoky brown to black with development or when dry;
stem: indented (sinus) at attachment with cap; often prominently ridged, lacunose, and granulated;
