Notes: Specimens were collected in September 2006 in the pinon/juniper grassland around my home in northern New Mexico, USA, and sent to Dr. J.M. Trappe in Oregon who provided the ID. Samples were sent for further study to various mycologists specializing in the Glomeromycetes.

Summary:
Bouteloua gracilis (blue grama grass)
These were found in open, sandy soil in the Pinon/Juniper grassland in northern New Mexico, up to 10 meters outside the drip line of any tree. I suspect the mycorrhizal association is with the predominant grass, Bouteloua gracilis (blue grama).
