Observation: Tubaria conspersa (Pers.) Fayod (1101)
About Tubaria conspersa (Pers.) Fayod
When: 2006-11-23
Collection location: Briceland, California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Nathan Wilson (nathan)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These specimens keyed out as T. furfuracea in Mushrooms Demystified. However, the ornamentation on the stipe seems atypical to me. It also was not growing in the sort of urban setting where I’m used to seeing it.

Overall it was very poor collecting in the Briceland area this year. I believe the reason was an early cold snap which shutdown most of the mycorhizal species.

Summary: Reference for T. conspersa?

A quick google search provides a reasonable match, but I haven’t found a description or distribution info.

Summary: Tubaria conspersa

The floccose stipe with whitish flecks are characteristic of T. conspersa. At least it is a species to consider.
