Summary: Now this looks like pachycolea…

Amanita constricta has a weak, graying volva. Since the original description of A. constricta included data on A. protecta (I have examined much of the original material…as well as some beautiful fresh material at a SOMA camp a few years back), I think it is safe to say that the rusty spots associated with the original constricta description were the rusty spots that are very common and typical of A. protecta.

The robust species depicted in the photograph with a large and very robust volval sac that takes on rusty stains seems to me to be typical of A. pachycolea (I have examined its type as well as fresh material from central California).
