Observation: Cantharellula umbonata (Fr.) Singer (12867)
About Cantharellula umbonata (Fr.) Singer
When: 2008-10-09
Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]
Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found in the original location for these. I’ve since identified jack pine as well as the usual moss in that area as well. These fungi seem to be dependent on the moss, and the moss, I’m coming to suspect, is dependent in some way on pine and prefers jack pine. However the area with the most abundant fruitings of C. umbonata is actually dominated by another pine species, though jack pine grows here and there around its edges.
