I agree with Doug; this is not a mycena. Psath sounds reasonable, and who is gonna argue with you? Can’t do a “real” ID w/out more details, tho…

Also the photo here is fairly low res, only 600×800 is it? Not that increasing the res. is going to help without a shot of the gills? pores? I see a lot of these low res shots on the site here, and I wonder does that come from the camera? Are you shooting photos at 600×800 or something? (Less than 1 megapixel?)

Well, not sure it is that easy. I haven’t seen a Mycena with that sort of shaggy margin. That might not mean anything…

I have seen many a Psathyrella with a brown cap and a white shaggy margin, that is small and terrestrial, and with a white stipe. Here you say it is a Mycena, not a Psathyrella.

So, to tell the difference it would be good to see what the fertile surface looks like, and maybe get a hint of spore color off that. Even then, getting a Psathyrella id just off one photo of the top of the cap, not sure people can do that.

Maybe someone knows a Mycena that looks like this one?

no, not sure, going on memory mostly from what myself and the other mycologically inclined folk said we thought it was. i never pinned anyone down and asked. i think it was discussed in passing. i figured this would be a distinct enough specimen to make at least some kind of conclusion, if even from only this one shot.

edit: I should mention that I’m normally not so sparse with my photographs. i usually include several displaying as many angles and characteristics of the specimen as possible. this was more of an artistic shoot than a collection.

Is there any more to go on here? Need photos of the gills, and info on the spore color perhaps… Are you sure this is a Mycena?
