Notes: This specimen is on the large end for this species but it does seem to fit the descriptions. Most of the web photos show lighter colors and the location is more south than usually reported. Bishop pine seemed to be the nearest conifer. Chroogomphus pseudovinicolor was another possibility but it is usually associated with Ponderosa pine according to Arora.
Spores were black(photo added) and about in the size and shape of most of our Chroogomphus species;approx. 15-18 X 6.5-7.0 microns.
