About Rhodocollybia butyracea (Bull.) Lennox
Public Description (default) [Edit]
Draft for Wild Mushrooms of the Northeastern United States by Herbert Baker (private)
When: 2008-11-15
Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]
Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: It almost doesn’t look like the same mushroom, does it? But it really was these colors: rose-tinted tan top, some white flesh showing where scraped on underbrush; white gills with 4 distinctly different lengths and zones; stipe is mostly ruby red, but with some brown and cream coloration, too; fibrous.

Used references: Arora’s Mushrooms Demystified. Cap more pinkish-red than tan. Some wood still adherring to the base of the stipe.
