Notes: Initially I was going to call this Boletus barrowsii because of the overall white coloring of the specimen. Later, after wiping the cap with a damp cloth, the basic cap color was a light brown, slightly reddish.

Recognized by sight: I think your first impression was the correct one; cap color on barrowsii can range to buff, which is a light brown. this does not look like any edulis button that I’ve ever seen, and we know that barrrowsii occurs where you collected this fruit body. under hardwoods?
