Observation: Battarrea sp. Pers. (16170)
About Battarrea Pers.
When: 2009-01-08
Collection location: Alter Valley, West of Tucson, Tucson, Arizona, USA [Click for map]
Who: ultio1
Herbarium specimen available

Notes: I was walking around today looking at tracks in the desert and I came across this.It was growing under a mesquite with lots of good mulchy soil and dry dead fall wood around. There is the cap of another fruit body next to it on the ground. Is the red stuff spores? Mycelium? Once again I am only able to report the observation and not much else. It looks like it may have been there for a while which is surprising. There are tons of birds, Javalina, Coyotes, etc. If they all passed on I guess I better not eat it. Lol.

I think its a Montagnea but I am not sure.
