Summary: Can’t be sure that age hasn’t altered the stipe coloring and decoration…

If the stipe reflects its condition in better times (pallid with pallid fibrils…particularly note the upper stipe which is not darkening with age), then I’d suggest that there are possible alternative determinations. One such is A. subnudipes (Romagn.) Tulloss (taxonomic synonym of “A. crocea var. subnudipes Romagn.”). In my experience, the cap of A. crocea is more orange than in the illustration and the stipe is orangish with pallid, dense, fibrous decoration in youth; and the decoration becomes a darker orange than the stipe with a little aging. The two species can be segregated by other characteristics as well. See the key to species of stirpes Fulva, Crocea, etc. on the Amanita Studies web site. I think the microscopic characters mentioned in that key are very useful in well-dried material.
