Observation: Hygrocybe nigrescens (Quél.) Kühner (1922)
About Hygrocybe nigrescens (Quél.) Kühner
When: 2006-12-29
Collection location: Howarth Park, Santa Rosa, California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Debbie Drechsler (debdrex)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These hygrocybes are what piqued my interest in fungi, but identifying them confounds me! This one had greenish and black stains, viscid pileus and stipe, which is white at it’s base, and growing in a mostly madrone area (well, that’s what I wrote in my notes but there are oak in that area, also). Gills white with black and gray stains.
