Summary: I think he is call it that because of me

I suggested that can keep calling these G. autumnalis if they are viscid. If they are viscid they are (were) G. autumnalis, non-viscid are G. marginata. I like the idea that we try and keep the two recognizable form separate, so we can see if there are habitat differences that influence the forms. Personally I would like to call then G. marginata f. marginata, and G. marginata f. autumnalis, but I’m not sure that is up to me. Just lumping two different form together, I think we loose something, in learning perhaps why they are different.

For California, I haven’t see the actual G. marginata myself, or confirmed any preserved samples. They all have some layer somewhere on the cap surface of gelatin, so I’m still looking for the form myself.

Summary: nicely dramatic thumbnail!

…but I think autumnalis is now called marginata.
