Summary: C. comatus easy to grow …

especially where dogs are allowed freedom to defecate outdoors. A local college near me has a semi-reliable patch which I enjoy harvesting, unless someone else beats me to them. Tasty and abundant at times. Try to pick the ones that are without black edges to the gills, as that indicates the mushroom has already begun the auto-deliquescence – self-destruction – of its sporocarps. Immersing young sporocarps in ice water is said to postpone auto-deliquescence for an hour or two.
