Summary: a case of identity

Yes, There is some question about L. nettyana. The Ramsey’s description is really close to L. lambinonii (Nordic Macromycetes) which was described by Demoulin in 1972, eight years before Ramseys publication. If you check British puffballs, they describe it as intermediate between L. umbrinum and L. molle.
At least in the west most people do not have a good concept of any of these species, mixing umbrinum with nigrescens, etc. and rarely using lambinonii, umbrinum or another species that Demoulin says is in the Pacific Northwest, L. ericaeum.

As to your fungus…. Lycoperdon marginatum is better name than any i’ve mentioned so far. I like it.
