Observation: Boletus pallidoroseus Both (24568)
About Boletus pallidoroseus Both
Public Description (default) [Edit]
When: 2009-08-19
Collection location: Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]
Who: Dave in NE PA
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Same general area, similar habitat as obs 24525. Same KOH profile, except KOH on the caps in this batch flashes dark then soon fades. So I’m treating this and 24525 as the same species.

Odor faint to nil. Scratches on pore surface bruise bluish then turn to reddish; become persistently very dark red after a few hours. The stalks on these showed more bluing than with 24525. Cut context in cap stains blue only where stipe joins cap, but not immediately. Cut context in stipe also blues, fairly dark in spots.

Summary: Added a spore pic.

Spores seem too small for B. miniato pallescens. Difficult to rule out B. pseudosensibilis; especially given the pronounced bluing. B/R/B says the bluing is quick. Does the cut context of B. pseudosensibilis turn blue immediately? Or does it take a minute or so?
