Observation: Cyathus stercoreus (Schwein.) De Toni (24688)
About Cyathus stercoreus (Schwein.) De Toni
When: 2009-08-08
Collection location: Hartland, Vermont, USA [Click for map]
Who: John Carl Jacobs (JCJacobs)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Cyathus stercoreus

Common name: Dung-loving Bird’s Nest

Notes: I found this remarkable fungus growing on horse dung, in a pasture. I would estimate these Dung-loving Bird’s Nests were present on about half the dung piles in the pasture. Of all the different species living on the dung, Cyathus stercoreus was by far the most abundant.
