Summary:
Went back to the collection site today
and got a couple more of these. Should have some spores to look at tomorrow. Also plucked a classic flavoconia for the purpose of seeing the spore shape contrast.

Summary:
OK…
It is still possible to get good spore data from spores on the gills when a mushroom is mature and pristine.

Summary:
I didn’t
take a spore print with this one. The fruit body was in such excellent condition; I just wanted to get it dehydrated before it decomposed.

Summary:
I’d say probably so
There is a spore shape difference between A. elongata and A. flavoconia. Checking the size and length/width ratio of the spores is a good way to confirm that this is A. elongata … in our current state of knowledge. Basic info is on the relevant species pages on the Amanita Studies site. The length/width ratio info is on (at least) the New Jersey Pine Barrens and the Great Smoky Mtns. Nat. Pk. checklist pages.
