Observation: Phaeolus schweinitzii (Fr.) Pat. (25079)
About Phaeolus schweinitzii (Fr.) Pat.
Public Description (default) [Edit]
When: 2009-09-08
Collection location: Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]
Who: kate (kate)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This is a rather large shelf type mushroom growning at the base of a large mature and intact pine tree. I am not fully versed on tree identification as of yet. Perhaps the bark or pine needles will be recognized by a keen observer. This mushroom is growing on the north side of the tree on a north facing bank. The coloring is more vivid in person with brown towards the the center becoming a bright yellow towards the edges with a slightly darker brown rim bordering the edges. The surface is wavey, the texture is firm. I was unable to get a clear shot of the underside however it appeared to be yellow. Any help in the idetification of this mushroom is greatly appreciated. Kate
