Summary: candy odors

This collection looks very similar to a these:

,which smelled pleasant to me when fresh, but Dr. Kerrigan reported a phenolic odor when he opened the box of dried specimens.

I have noted candy odors at the disks of several mushrooms, whose stipes and gills smell unpleasant.

Russula fragrantissima comes to mind. The top of the cap is all cherry candy, but the bottom of the mushroom is nasty like chlorine.

This unidentified mushroom has the aroma of bottlecaps or Pez candy at the disk, but the stipe and gills smell of burnt electronics.

These mushrooms were on the large side for A. placomyces but the DNA sequence is a match and microscopy agrees as well. I’m uploading this because I detected a candy-like odor at the disc of this mushroom, which otherwise had the expected library-paste to strong phenolic odor of the toxic sp...
