Notes: Cap Width 8 cm, smooth round and flat. color Chestnut surface finely velvety nearly smooth dry pore surface cream. Stalk 7 cm constricted at the base and at the apex. chestnut smooth. Flesh white not bruising taste mild no odor. found growing under mixed woods Oak, Hemlock and Beech

of Xanthoconium purpureum
the caps fade as it ages… I don’t feel like arguing my case here, I’ll let someone else do it for me.

Summary: looks differnt from Xanthoconium

Looking at other related images of this species this image appears different from others Mainly the cap color all have a violet look to them this is more chestnut. also at the apex and the base of the stem there is some narrowing which is Characteristic for Gyroporus and appears to be different from Xanthoconium
