Summary: I agree…

constricta is common at Huck, it’s large, and it shows a similar reddening on the volva to pachycolea. The volva isn’t as thick, is constricted at the base and as Rod pointed out, often shows a gray lining.

Pachycolea usually has a much darker, two-toned umbonate cap, coupled with extremely long and deep striations at the cap edge.

Summary: Thanks Rod!

I had looked at constricta. But had a hard time noticing the grey signs. Thanks for the information.

Summary: The gills look as if they had turned gray with age.

Would you agree? This usually happens in species of sect. Vaginatae with weakly structured and graying volval sacks…or so I have come to expect. This suggests a determination something like A. constricta…even though the volval sac isn’t gray in all photos (but look at the cross-section, especially the upper part of the limb on the side of the stem where the limb is longest. That seems pretty gray to me.

R.
