I have found several colors but do not recall seeing green as Dan mentioned. These yellow ones were being consumed by a slug.

Years ago, I followed one for 20 hours. It went from white, to yellow to bright red and finally brown. Red was the shortest phase. Farr lists 13 species for North America, others list more.

is unusual for a Stemonitis in my area. The chocolate tube myxo is ruddy brown in this stage I think but I am not good at Myxomycete identifications.
