Observation: Gymnopus sp. (Pers.) Roussel (34507)
About Gymnopus (Pers.) Roussel
When: 2010-03-01
Collection location: Fort Ord, Seaside, California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These were growing on debris under manzanita with Live oak nearby.
Caps up to 1.8 cm across. Although they appear to be hygrophanous, it may be they just get lighter in age as the ones I used for spore prints did not fade after several days.
The stems were fairly tough.
The spores were not amyloid and measured approx.8.0-9.0 X 5.0-5.3 microns.
The gills appeared free or almost free.

Summary: Gymnopus of the undescribed group…

I see Genus Gymnopus here and is in the line of some undescribed ones
from Calfiornia.

Something along those lines:

Some may even be interpreted along the G. villosipes allies.

I have discussed some similar collections with Dennis Desjardin. The consensus is that we have quite a few such that are undescribed most likely.
