Observation: Mycena abramsii (Murrill) Murrill (34713)
About Mycena abramsii (Murrill) Murrill
When: 2010-01-29
Collection location: Los Trancos Preserve, Palo Alto, California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)
Herbarium specimen available

Notes: Found in mossy gound, under mixed hardwood forest.

The micro-shot is of a gill edge at 400x in Meltzer’s. Here the fusoid to lageniform cheilocystidia, and the dextrinoid gill trama. Also obs. where the smooth amyloid ellipsoid spores.

Trying to see if I can id Mycena from gill features only, and not sure. But it seems with these brown guys, with fusiod to lageniform cheilocystidia and dextrinoid gill trama you really only get M. abramsii. Although the cystidia shape as published for this species have a rather largish range of shapes, this is fine within the published range.

But I do seem to confuse myself when I go through the Mycena sources, and they organize the sections in rather strange ways if you ask me… I need to go back to the Mycena and check on the stipe and cap surface features.
