Observation: Sarcoscypha sp. (Fr.) Boud. (34910)
About Sarcoscypha (Fr.) Boud.
When: 2010-03-18
Collection location: Wayne National Forest, Athens Co., Ohio, USA [Click for map]
Who: Dan Molter (shroomydan)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I had a 2:00 PM appointment to have an axle replaced on the shroomymobile, so I figured I’d take a little hike while they were working on my car. This is what I love about Athens, no place in town is more than a 15 minute walk from big public woods :)

I packed some food, water, my tripod, fresh batteries, knee pads. I was all set, except that I left my camera sitting on the table in a rush to make the two o’clock appointment. I didn’t even realize the camera was missing until I found these glorious scarlet cups, probably the biggest prettiest cluster I’ve ever seen. It was very strange being in the woods without a camera.

Anyway, no in situ shots, but look forward some microscopy.

Summary: How Alice in Wonderlandy!

This looks like an excellent way to control color and white balance as well.

Ever heard of these? http://www.adorama.com/GHMCCC.html I’d get one if they made them about 25% of this size for the really small stuff.

Summary: great art shot, Dan!

no crime in bringing them home alive for their portraits…some of my favorite shots of California condors were taken in a studio!
