Observation: Cortinarius sp. (sub Genus Sericeocybe) (4075)
About Cortinarius (sub Genus Sericeocybe)
When: 2007-09-14
Collection location: Lake Absarraca, Cheyenne, Wyoming, USA [Click for map]
Who: Barry Hammel (bhammel)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing on the ground under Willow trees at the edge of the lake.

This gill fungus has a cinnamon colored spore print, a nice mushroomy (i.e., like Agaricus bisporus) fragrance and taste. The buttons have a very fugaceous veil, that looks a bit less cobwebby than what I’m led to expect of Cortinarius, but my preliminary id. has now been confirmed by the administrator of this site.

Summary: Just for the record, I was logged in as administrator

I should probably make it so I can’t add comments as admin since I’ve done that more than once now.

Summary: I agree, Cortinarius

The spore print is a little bit bright for a typical Cortinarius, but the veil and the gills look right.
