Observation: Coprinopsis sp. P. Karst. (4201)
About Coprinopsis P. Karst.
When: 2007-09-24
Collection location: Menlo Park, California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Some unknown, and very small, Coprinus. I left it has Coprinus, because I’m not sure if these are Coprinellus or Parasol or…

They were too small to get into the lab and check out later under the scope. How do Coprinus type poeple handle these as specimens? Have a dryer going in the car to preserve them minutes after finding them?

Summary: Coprinopsis sp.

If open this photography, full size image …. you will see that one copy has a few small remnants of veil. Therefore we can rule out any species of the genus Parasola. We can also rule out Coprinellus genre, because the few species of this genus have Veil, abundant, and are Domestici and Micaei sections, which contain bigest species.

It is certainly Coprinopsis sp.

Summary: .

I like it! A dashboard dryer: just plug it into your cigarette lighter…or whatever the current PC alternative is. Actually, just the greenhouse effect on the dashboard is sometimes sufficient, at least on a sunny spring day…
