  amanitarita   -57% (1)
Recognized by sight: not much macro to go on here: I found a whitish-yellow, sl. umbonate cap , med. sized (approx. 3 cm) lying on the ground. Other bits of tissue found, possibly an annulus; no stipe seen. Cap itself was well-munched by maggots, but gills were mostly OK, pale whitish, browning on sides of fruit body, gill attachment not discernable. I gathered a few good gills to look at the spores, since the cap gestalt reminded me of one of the deadly amanita sp. (a pale phalloides or ocreata). Under the scope, that theory was dashed!
Based on microscopic features: spores amyloid, ornamented, sub-globose to ellipsoid. abundant cystidia.
  amanitarita   57% (1)   Eye3Eyes3
Recognized by sight: Else took a peek at the micro, and apparently russulas CAN have cystidia, plus Melanoleuca cystidia are usually encrusted and with a different shape.
