Observation: Laetiporus cincinnatus (Morgan) Burdsall, Banik, & Volk (50754)
About Laetiporus cincinnatus (Morgan) Burdsall, Banik, & Volk
Public Description (default) [Edit]
When: 2010-08-19
Collection location: Washtenaw Co., Michigan, USA [Search]
Who: Brian (chilcottb)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I just collected this Laetiporus growing rooted at the base of an oak in southeast Michigan. I’ve collected much Laetiporus sulphureus here and elsewhere, but I’ve never seen this before. It’s salmon colored on both surfaces. Arora describes L. s. semialbinus as having a white pore surface, but this has a salmon pore surface. It’s unbelievably tender and soon will be dinner…
