Observation: Cordyceps capitata (Holmsk.) Link (6299)
About Cordyceps capitata (Holmsk.) Link
When: 2007-01-10
Collection location: Apalachicola National Forest, Wakulla Co., Florida, USA [Click for map]
Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I just realized there were only two other observations out there for this neat fungus, and only one with photos. I found these in great numbers among various species of southern oak in quite sandy soil. All (that I dug up) with the obligatory little deer truffle (Elaphomyces sp.) stuck to the end.
