Summary:
No micro information for this observation
I’m not familiar with Lentinus strigellus and the only photo I could find was on this site; http://home.arcor.de/Daemmrich/images/L_strigellus.html which shows a very hairy fruiting body. The specimens in the Observation did seem to fit the general description for L. strigosus in Bessette et al “Mushrooms of the Southeastern United States”, and they were more fuzzy-hairy than long-hairy.
Apparently the L. strigellus is a tropical or subtropical species but has it ever been reported in the Gulf States of the US?
