Observation: Asterophora lycoperdoides (Bull.) Ditmar (8511)
About Asterophora lycoperdoides (Bull.) Ditmar
Public Description (default) [Edit]
When: 2008-07-27
Collection location: Wildcat Hollow, Wayne National Forest, Ohio, USA [Click for map]
Who: Dan Molter (shroomydan)
No herbarium specimen

Notes: These small parasitic mushrooms were growing from the mummified fruit-body of some other kind of mushroom. I could not see any gills, so I suspect they are boletes.

I have seen parasitic boletes growing from puffballs before, but never from an agaric. The general shape of the host suggests Russula or Lactarius.
