Notes: On small bay laural branch

This collection was made by David Rust. When I first looked at it I thought it was just the usual Schizopora paradoxa, which is probably the most commonly collected pored resupinate on conifer wood in our area. However the spore size fits better with S. flavipora, and all other features seem to fit the description in Gilbertson and Ryvarden. However I don’t really know this species, hence the “promising” confidence on the species name.

An interesting comment at the end of their description adds more reason for caution: “The geographic distribution of the species is unclear as it often has been confused with S. paradoxa, and some intermediate specimens occur, especially as to the hymenophore. A detailed study of this genus in North America is highly desirable. W have used the European concept of these studies.”
