Notes: Found under pine, I think white pine. Need help, I just don’t know east coast Amanitas.
Veil is clean, but no volva, the universal veil was only yellow flakes on base.
9/4/2008 – From looking at spores on Aug 30
Put some veil tissue under the scope to look for spores. The micro-shot is of the veil tissue at 1000x in Meltzer’s. Here is a spore, which is ellipsoid and amyloid.
Only 4 good spores were found, the cap was perhaps a little young. Also on the veil tissue not many spores were properly in profile and in focus on top of the tissue. but from those few spores I find a really rough ave spore : length – 7.89 +/- 0.50 (err 0.27) um, width – 5.45 +/- 0.51 (err: 0.27) – q : 1.45 +/- 0.09, on 4 spores.
Need to check and see if this agrees with the suggest id.
The spores seem to match better with A. flaviconia, not so much with A. elongata, but the number of spores seen here was low.
Also from Rod’s comments, I’m not sure he understands, that only one was found here, and I have photographed it 4 times, in the field and against white to get the details as well as possible for the mushroom.
The spores size here is consistant with the other measurements of spores for A. flaviconia, and at least smaller, not larger, as the sources seem to mention, that A. elongata should have larger spores.
