Observation 10036: Terfezia arenaria (Moris) Trappe
When: 2002-03-13
Collection location: Kemitra, Morocco [Click for map]
No herbarium specimen

Notes: This collection of Terfezia arenaria was sent to me by Tony LahRoche from Kemitra, Morocco. There are some 50 species of Terfezia truffles in Africa, many associated with Accacia trees or small plants in desert conditions. Look close and you will see small grains of sand still adherring to the peridium of these truffles, which tasted quite similar to Tuber gibbosum.
