Laccaria

I really think this could be a Laccaria species. I find many odd Lac’s in North GA, where we also share many varieties with Mexico (similar plant species, etc.). The scales on the cap can sometimes be seen in L. ochropurpurea when they are mature, but certainly not as prominent as whatever this species is.

I’m not saying that I think that this is a Laccaria, but I want to point out that at least one member of that genus (L. trullisata) not only doesn’t have round spores (they are long-ellipsoid to cylindric), it also has relatively smooth spores.

This was under an acacia tree.

Definitely not Laccaria due to the smooth spores.

smooth spores would rule out Laccaria…no?

Laccaria seems a possible fit.

Has scales on the stipe, similar to Laccaria. Prominent scales on cap seem slightly odd for Laccaria though.

Found in a pasture in Mexico? Any trees or shrubs nearby (within 50 meters or so)? Many Laccaria are mycorrhizal, although I find some of them in my lawn too.

real quick as I was running out the door to hunt in a tropical dry forest. I’ll do more this evening. Microscopy shows that this is the same species as observation 81949.
