Notes: A very old photo of a landscape morel growing in a mulched flower bed. I thought at the time that this might be different than the local black woodland morels.

I have found exactly one black morel…

in ornamental wood chips (maybe 1996?). Downtown Wilkes – Barre, PA. It was a long time ago, but I remember that it looked different than our typical local black morels… more like the ones from the PNW that I have seen in pictures.

I showed your photo of this around a few years ago Morchella costata is what i was told. There may be an update I will check on that.
