Notes: HABITAT oldgrowth chaparral and conglomerate outcrops at top of high transverse ridge; SUBSTRATE north face of conglomerate outcrop on top of ridge; ASPECT shaded; NOTES endolithic, contorted black apothecia with rough texture causing them to look pruinose, thin even glossy black to translucent rims, epihymenium black POL- unchanged in K, hymenium hyaline POL- KI+ blue, hypothecium red-brown POL+ clearing and turning somewhat red-violet in K and KI+ golden, exciple of radiating hyphae greenish toward margin, paraphyses strongly conglutinated even in K; SPORES 8 per ascus, oblong, hyaline, simple, smooth, 10 × 3 µm.
