that a species listed within the comments under Boletus speciosus would need to have a reticulate stipe, as this agrees with my concept of the speciosus types.

in BB&R is a possibility. I did not scratch the pore surface to check for a color change.

But if this is B. rubissimus in the link below, the cap color id wrong. I can’t see the reticulations.

Big NA bolete book mentions the non-staining B. rubissimus within the comments under B. speciosus… only reported from Michigan. The brief description seems to match this collection.

I may be in Elkins again Friday and I’ll look for it.

It was near the Amanita pantherina which I did collect.
