Observation 102717: Boletus rex-veris Arora & Simonini
When: 2012-07-24
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Yellow brown “meringue” textured cap. Olivaceous reticulation on stem. Found at 5500 ft under Incense cedar and Western hemlock.

Pardon the poopy habitat shots, this was up an embankment I couldn’t climb. Had to knock it down with a stick.

It seemed to be both the normal cap texture and a meal, but I guess the odd cap could have been all nibbles.

No ideas here

But it looks like the texture is a result of rodent teeth marks. Was that your impression?

Any ideas Walt?
