Notes: HABITAT oldgrowth chaparral and conglomerate outcrops at top of high transverse ridge; SUBSTRATE north face of conglomerate cliff; ASPECT shaded; NOTES thick smooth broadly-rimose tan epruinose to pruinose thallus, K+y-r bright C- KC- UV- or prunia UV+ pale yellow? 350nm, flush large aspicilioid apothecia, disk black with strongly matte appearance, epihymenium brown POL-, hymenium and below hyaline POL-, cortex thick hyaline POL+, algae layer continuous and thick, medulla hyaline POL+, norstictic acid crystals present, medulla negative in Lugol’s; SPORES Buellia-type, 15-16 × 7-8 µm.
