Notes: HABITAT oldgrowth chaparral and conglomerate outcrops at top of high transverse ridge; SUBSTRATE north face of conglomerate cliff; ASPECT shaded; NOTES very rugose dull dark gray-brown thallus, K- C- KC-, black sunken apothecia, epihymenium dark brown lightening in K POL-, cortex brown and thin POL-, algae and medulla faintly and finely POL+ not clearing in K, hypothecium forming a hidden “stipe” hyaline POL-; SPORES 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, textured?, brown in age, septate, angular very early on and remaining so, retaining apical thickenings even in oldest spores, becoming constricted when overmature, ~20 × 10 µm.
