HABITAT chaparral on sea cliffs in small west-facing cove; SUBSTRATE mossy outcrop in chaparral gully; ASPECT partly shaded; NOTES rimose-areolate greenish-brownish crust, perithecia buried in middle of areoles with black tip protruding a bit, involucrellum at top only and flaring away from exciple, exciple thick and hyaline, thin hyaline cortex above outer portions of involucrellum; SPORES ellipsoid to subglobose, hyaline, simple, textured inside without any bubbles, 25-30 × 15-20 µm.
